Sabbath and misconceptions

“Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.” (Deuteronomy 5:12-15)
Recently, I have been studying the history of the Sabbath and what God requires of us regarding it. Oh, how we have got this wrong. Trading the seventh day for the first day when clearly God said to observe the seventh. I am guilty of not keeping the seventh day Holy. God has given me a sense of conviction about how I do work at least one Sabbath every month. I also need to pursue a house of God that keeps the seventh day. Why and when did we start keeping Sunday as the Sabbath?
Jesus went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day to hear and also read the books of God’s law. “So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.” (Luke 4:16). We are also told that we should be imitators of God, and He came to give us the example that we should follow. Therefore, a meeting in the house of God should be a part of the Sabbath day.
This article may give some insight to why some early Christians started observing Sabbath on the day the Pagans honor their sun god. Although, other readings I’ve found suggest that many Christians did observe Sabbath on the seventh day, and also the Lord’s Day on the first. The Lord’s Day in history was a day of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. people would work and do their normal activities, but they also rejoiced.                  ( Also from this writing, we learn that maybe as early as 150 A.D., Christians were meeting on Sunday for reading the memoirs of the apostles and to have their president verbally teach them. In Daniel 7, it is believed by some that verse 25 says that the Papacy has changed time and law and that this is one of those changes.
There may be and probably are many more opinions and theories on how/why/who this happened, but the main thing I pulled from this study was to always go back to the Bible when I’m confronted with a question or conviction like this. I’ve been praying, studying, and meditating on this and that is what God revealed to me.

Protect your spirit.

I was looking for ways to quit smoking, like many people do. Everyone who is searching for information on the subject will find all sorts of articles and videos and ads about hypnosis. It’s very inviting at first glance. You click a hypnosis video and read the comments to see what people are saying about their results. Most of them are very positive with stories about how someone is on their 8th day, 20th day, 3 month, etc without cigarettes. I started watching the video and within a few minutes I felt something coming over me. It was very nice and soothing. It felt great…mostly. I was also overwhelmed with a realization that I needed to get out of this now! I have no doubt that this came from a pleading from God. I was in the process of inviting evil into my spirit. I share this, because I’m disappointed in myself for not starting with a conversation with God and reading His book for wisdom. There is most definitely a war going on spiritually for each and every one of our souls. We need to be careful about joining the customs of the world.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11).

“When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.” (Deuteronomy 18:9-12)
